Jack Nicklaus, Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin to play in Ally Challenge Celebrity Shootout

FLINT – The Golden Bear is coming back to the Ally Challenge.

Jack Nicklaus, the greatest champion in golf history, will be taking part in the 2022 Celebrity Shootout, the PGA Tour Champions event announced today.

Joining Nicklaus at Warwick Hills Golf and Country Club in Grand Blanc Township will be Detroit Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin, two-time super middleweight world champion boxer Anthony Dirrell, US Adaptive Golf champion golfer Kim More and former Michigan basketball star Jalen Rose.

Last year, Nicklaus played in the Celebrity Shootout with Michigan State basketball coach Tom Izzo, former Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill and golf Hall of Famer Lee Trevino.

In 2019, he played with Kid Rock and holed a 55-foot chip shot on the 18th hole to win $15,000 for charity.

This year’s four-hole charity event will be held Aug. 27 on the back nine at Warwick Hills. The Celebrity Shootout contestants will follow the final group of the second round off the 10th hole.

And get this: The aforementioned fivesome will be joined by other celebrities who will be announced in the coming weeks. They’ll play a four-hole competition that will cover the 10th, 11th, 17th and 18th holes.

Nicklaus, who has played in the Celebrity Shootout three times previously, has won a record 18 major championships among his 120 worldwide victories.

These days, he concentrates on his golf-course design business as well as being a goodwill ambassador for the sport.

Larkin has been the Red Wings captain since 2021, following legends Steve Yzerman, Niklas Lidstrom and Henrik Zetterberg as players who wore the ‘C’ on their jerseys for Detroit.

He was the Red Wings’ first-round pick (15th overall) in the 2014 NHL draft, made his NHL debut in 2015 and was named to the All-Star Game in 2016.

Dirrell, a Flint native, has a 34-2-2 record with 25 knockouts. He won world championships in 2014 and 2019.

Moore, who grew up in the Kalamazoo area, is the Western Michigan University women’s golf coach who won the 2022 US Adaptive Open for players with physical impairments. She was born without a right foot and a case of spina bifida.

Rose played for Michigan’s famed Fab Five basketball team, which reached back-to-back NCAA title games in 1992-93.

I have spent 13 seasons in the NBA playing for six teams and today works as a basketball analyst. I have co-hosted ESPN’s afternoon show Jalen & Jacoby.

The 54-hole Ally Challenge will be held Aug. 22-28. It has a $2 million purse and the champion will take home $300,000.

Joe Durant is the defending champion.
